The
Bayside Adventure Sports Ministry has made a difference in the lives
of men and women all over California. This unique ministry
seeks men and women out where they are, and draws upon their passion
for adventure sports to attract them to a relationship with Jesus
Christ.
Here are just a
few of the stories that make this ministry worth every minute of
time that our leaders, volunteers, and members spend advancing the
kingdom of Christ in this special ministry.
Terry Ash - God Rides a Mountain Bike
“When
I moved to Granite Bay last fall I was at best a
casual Christian, sporadically attending church,
uncommitted in my faith, and not serving in any
way. I h ooked
up with a few mountain bikers at work on a ride
and ran into Steve Keller, leader of the BAS
mountain bike division. Steve was wearing a BAS
shirt and I started asking him about it on a
ride in the Auburn ravine. I was surprised to
learn that Bayside had an Adventure Sports
Ministry. Soon I was joining Steve and the BAS
gang on monthly rides. I remember coming home
effusive and telling my wife – “God rides a
mountain bike!” Since then I’ve made many
friends at Bayside, attend every Sunday, tithe
regularly with joy, and serve in this ministry.
BAS has been a “God thing” for me and brought me
to a relationship with Christ I never
experienced before. For the first time in my
life I’m serving with a joyful heart. My
wife Judy has been praying for me to come to
Christ for 14 years, and now her prayers have
been answered. In the fall of 2005 I was
baptized alongn with my daughter Meghan.
Without this ministry reaching out to me where I
was, on the trail, it never would have happened
- God indeed rides a mountain bike!"
George & Kelly Baraga - Bikes, Kayaks, and Christ
"My
wife Kelly and I were casual Christians
attending church when we felt compelled (had
nothing better to do). We happened to be
at Folsom Lake Mountain Biking where I saw a
bunch of bikes so I went over to check out
who was riding in my territory. It was Steve
Keller with Bayside Adventure Sports. He
invited us to ride with him and we did. We
talked after that and he invited us into his
Bible study group. We joined his group,
began attending Bayside regularly and it
dramatically changed our lives and our
marriage. Since that fateful day at Folsom
Lake 3 years ago I have Joined a bible study
group, became leader of that group when
Steve Keller moved on to other things with
the church and became involved with
Adventure Sports. I am now on the Board of
Directors of Adventure Sports; was baptized
with my wife at Folsom lake and now live my
life for Jesus Christ. When my wife and I
came to a crisis point in our marriage,
everyone in our bible study group and the
church, pastor Glenn, Greg, and others all
came to save our marriage. I believe in my
heart if it had not been for the wonderful
Christians at Bayside my marriage would have
ended. Now we can't imagine life without
Bayside and Jesus. Bayside, keep reaching
out!! There are untold George's and Kelly's
out there looking for Christ.”
