Trout Opener Equipment & Skills Tune-up Class

With the Season Trout opener quickly approaching, this clinic is to make sure you and your Fly fishing gear are in working order. We will “brush up” on the basic techniques used while fly fishing for trout.
Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to hone your skills, this class is perfect for every angler.

  • Essential knots and rigging techniques
  • Gear selection and river etiquette
  • Basic understanding of nymph and dry fly fishing

Dogs and alcohol are not permitted on BAS events due to liability issues.

We ask that minors come with a parent/guardian or other adult as we do not have systems in place to have unsupervised youth.

  • Valid CA Fly Fishing License
  • Waders and Wading Boots
  • 9’ 4X Leader
  • 3X,4X,5X,6X Fluorocarbon tippet
  • 9’ 4-6WT fly rod and reel with floating Fly Line matched to rod
  • Size BB split shot 
  • Strike indicator to your liking that is easily adjust for depth
  • Polarized Sunglasses
  • Wading Staff
  • Sunscreen
  • Drinking Water
  • Fly assortment: Pro tip. You don’t need all of these. You can probably get by with a variety of two dozen from this list.)

Instructor

 Dave Shafer
Dave doubles as the Director of Bayside Adventure Sports as well as one of the Fly Fishing instructors. Dave spent the better part of the late ‘90s and 2000s guiding in Northern California including the Upper Sac. Dave was the director of the largest fly fishing program in the US and has taught thousands of people. Simply put, Dave is the most “okayest” fly fisherman around these waters!​
