Upper Sac River Nymphing Clinic

aJoin Dave Shafer for a one day clinic on the one and only Upper Sacramento River. This one day clinic will concentrate on nymph fishing pocket water streams. In this clinic, you will learn the secrets to how to successfully fish subsurface on pocket water freestone streams such as the Upper Sacramento River.

Come on up and make a weekend of it by staying overnight and trying out you newly learned skills on Saturday and Sunday! This a great way to learn more great fishing spots and to meet some new fishing enthusiasts!

This class will cover the following subjects:
  • Correct rod, reel, and line for this application
  • Terminal tackle and rigging
  • Stream safety and wading
  • Reading water
  • Basic entomology
  • Stream etiquette
  • Fishing strategy and identifying successful spots to fish
  • Casting efficiency (the do’s and don’ts when nymph fishing)

Equipment requirements
  • 4-6 9’ fly rod with matching reel and line
  • 4x 9’ tapered leader
  • 3-6x tippet material
  • BB split shot
  • Selection of flies
  • Wading boots, waders, wet wading socks if wet wading
  • Sunscreen
  • Water
  • Light rain jacket
  • Valid CA fishing license

Instructor

 Dave Shafer
Dave doubles as the Director of Bayside Adventure Sports as well as one of the Fly Fishing instructors. Dave spent the better part of the late ‘90s and 2000s guiding in Northern California including the Upper Sac. Dave was the director of the largest fly fishing program in the US and has taught thousands of people. Simply put, Dave is the most “okayest” fly fisherman around these waters!​
