Mountain Bike Classes

Interested in trying your skill at mountain biking but don’t know where to start? These classes are for you.
At the beginner level we will be teaching the fundamentals of mountain biking and having practicing our new skills on easy trails.

​You are ready for the intermediate class If you have some experience (1+ years) of riding a mtn bike off-road and you can change gears, brake and pedal efficiently and would like to improve your skills over rocks, ruts, roots, turns and small drop offs, either in ascents or descents with much more confidence and skill! Plus you’ll learn many new trails locally, and including short and long road trips.

Beginner Classes: 7:30am-10:30am
Saturday, October 1
​Location: Maidu trails (near Maidu Elementary, Roseville)

Intermediate Classes:  7:30am-10:30am
TBA
Location: Miner's Ravine Trail (meet at the back of the UA parking lot)
​
Age: 12 years and up (minor must be accompanied by an adult)

Includes: Instruction, guided practice ride, bike (extra charge)

Cost: $20/BAS Premium Members*, $35/non-member
Bike available for additional $10 (fits 5'0"-5'7")

  • What is mountain biking
  • The bike
  • Shifting
  • Braking
  • Turning
  • Balance
  • Efficient pedal strokes
  • Down hill control
  • Trail etiquette
  • Basic emergency kit
Once you have these basic skills down and have some off road cycling experience, you can advance to the intermediate class.
 What to bring:
  • Bike helmet (No Helmet, No riding in class)
  • Mountain bike in good riding condition (limited rentals available)
  • Water bottle or camel back & bladder, or the like
  • Comfortable flat bottom sport shoes, as smooth as possible
  • Comfortable quick drying clothing, semi snug fitting shorts - preferably bike shorts 
  • Light weight gloves
  • Sunglasses, or eye protection
  • Sunscreen

Please note - we are strict on the BAS Cancellation Policy  - no exceptions. There is considerable prep for these classes with gear and volunteers setting aside time, that we need to be sure each class is full.
