LEADER: Helen Verescak - [email protected] WHERE: Peter Grubb Hut is located just west of Donner Summit off of Hwy 80- 176 Boreal Ski exit. Follow signs to the Sno-Park at the east end of the road. This is a Sno-Park, which requires a Sno-Park pass. Driver's will need to buy a pass before the event and bring with them. You can purchase a pass on line at https://secure.cloudwisesolutions.com/app/products.html. WHAT: This is a moderate snowshoe - roundtrip is 6 miles with 500 ft elevation gain. WHO: This showshoe is for those who are in great physical hiking condition and are able to hike up and down hills or done other strenuous activity such as mountain biking/running and is able to hike on flat trail 20 minutes per miles. Not for beginners! WHEN: Saturday, February 18. We will meet at 6:35 AM - 5:00 PM, depart at 6:45 AM from the Starbuck's/Wells Fargo parking lot on Elm Street in Auburn. (We typically park in the lots BETWEEN Starbuck's and Wells Fargo). CARPOOL: Due to liability issues, BAS cannot organize or provide carpooling. Please be prepared to arrange your carpooling among yourselves and to help out drivers with gas money (A good rule of thumb is $4.00 for each hour of drive time. This trip would be about $8.00 each rider). Our event officially begins and ends at the trailhead. WHAT TO BRING: Layered clothing that wicks moisture, comfortable hiking boots, gaiters, hat, gloves, sunscreen, sunglasses, a light Goretex jacket in case of cool wind or rain, snowshoes and poles, at least 2 liters of water (hydration bladders or Nalgene-type bottles), food for lunch and snacks and a camera. (If you need rentals, Clark's Snowsports in Roseville offers current BAS members a 50% discount - just bring in proof of membership - your email confirmation from when you joined will work - email [email protected] if you need it resent) If you are new to snowshoeing this is a great site https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/snowshoeing-first-steps.htm Snowstorm - CANCELS Dogs and alcohol are not permitted on BAS events due to liability issues. Participation in many events with BAS is free.
