BAYSIDE ADVENTURE SPORTS
2022 LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRIP SCHEDULE/OVERVIEW

We are so glad you have chosen to spend Labor Day Weekend with us!  Here’s an overview including our schedule for your trip.

Your time is your own on this camping trip. The BAS Volunteers will be offering a few special opportunities each day, including time to get to know one another and a devotional around the campfire every evening.  We’ll also provide shade under our Easy-Ups at DL Bliss Beach on Saturday along with use of Stand Up Paddle Boards, Kayaks, and the new amazing Water Woosh Mat on Lake Tahoe.  We’ll also have desserts around the campfire both nights. You can download a suggested packing list below under "Tahoe Resources".

FRIDAY – ARRIVAL DAY
2-8pm - Please do not arrive prior to 2pm as the trip leaders need to prepare for you.   Starting at 2pm people are arriving at our campsites, setting up tents, getting to know the campground, or going across the street to Sugar Pine Point State Beach to play in Lake Tahoe.  Did you bring bicycles?  Get on them and go for a ride!
5:30-7pm - DINNER.  Guests are responsible for their own food on this trip.  Plan easy, delicious meals that can be prepared in a short amount of time.  Many bring dinner with them for Friday Night, which saves time cooking that meal.
7-9pm – GROUP CAMPFIRE.  Meet everyone else, Devotional from Pastor Greg Weisman, and special S’Mores at the Campfire!
10pm -    QUIET TIME at the campground.  Stay up later if you wish, but the Park rules are to keep it quiet enough for others to sleep.

SATURDAY – OPEN DAY, Free Day around Lake Tahoe!
Coffee will be available for early risers… by 6:30am.
We are not taking our kayaks or SUPs to the lake on Saturday but it you wanted to take one or two to Lake Tahoe or even one of the other lakes like Fallen Leaf, you may, but you will have to figure out just how to transport them.  You will need to make this decision by Friday dinner time in order for the volunteers to assist you with the gear.

Some options to consider…
  1. Join volunteer Erik Whealy  Hike to Cathedral Lake.   5.5-mile out-and-back trail near South Lake Tahoe, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 50 min to complete.
  2. Bike the Bike Paths.  If you have bicycles or want to rent, there are some great bike paths around the lake (because of Labor Day Weekend traffic, we recommend staying off of the roads!).  For renting bikes, West Shore Sports has 3 locations to consider:  www.westshoresports.com .  There are great bike paths from our campground to Tahoe City or all the way to Squaw Valley.  Why not ride to lunch and back?
  3. Mountain Bike.  If you have a Mountain Bike, the Corral Trail is a great option for riding.  See www.trailforks.com/trails/corral-trail-lower/
  4. 2 Hour Cruise on Lake Tahoe.  Paddle Wheel boat including Emerald Bay on the M.S Dixie.  About $99/person this departs Zephyr Cove area about 2:30pm.  Information and reservations here: www.zephyrcove.com/lake-tahoe-cruises/daytime-scenic-cruises
  5. The Ehrman Mansion & beach area.  Sugar Pine Point State Park has another location, the picnic area, which includes the beautiful Ehrman Mansion, grassy slopes, sand beach, and dock.  A great place for a picnic lunch!
  6. Emerald Bay.: Another great location for a visit is the famous Emerald Bay.  It’s a mile long steep walk down 400’ of elevation drop to the beach area which also boasts the beautiful Vikingsholm Mansion.  Parking fills early then the only available parking is on the road so plan accordingly.
  7. Rainbow Walk: Friday and Saturdays, 11:00 AM - Named for the rainbows that sparkle in the morning dew, the Rainbow Trail is a special place.  It loops through the largest meadow/marsh at Lake Tahoe.  Join a naturalist on the trail and discover how the meadow, marsh, and stream are connected to lake clarity

5:30-7pm  Preparing and eating dinner (or go out for dinner!)
7-9pm        Campfire Time again!  Devotional from Pastor Greg Weisman, and special desserts at the Campfire!
10pm         Quiet time at the campground.

SUNDAY – BEACH DAY!
Note:  On Holiday Weekends like Labor Day, DL Bliss State Park will likely close by 8:30am or 9am due to parking being filled.  Also, the parking for the beach area is not large and the close spots are taken first, often they are gone before 8am.  If you have to park farther out, it can be a long walk carrying gear to the beach.  We therefore recommend waking early and bringing breakfast and lunch to the beach!  Get there as early as possible, before 8am if you can, and really relax at the best beach on Lake Tahoe!  An additional note:  It will be warmer on the beach than at our campsite – because the sun will hit the beach first.  Trust us, no one ever wished they had come to the beach later in the day – everyone wishes they had come earlier!  Bring an easy-to-prepare & eat breakfast & Lunch and plan for a great day at the beach!

6am      Greg Weisman and leaders will head to DL Bliss to set up Easy-Ups, table, stove, kayaks, SUPs, & Water Whoosh Mat.
6-7:30am  Waking up in the brisk mountain air!  Consider having breakfast at DL Bliss Beach
7-7:30am   Depart for DL Bliss State Beach, a 6 mile, 15 minute drive going south, toward Emerald Bay.  It’s the best beach on Lake Tahoe!  Need Directions?  There is a map on our website you can download.  When you get to the beach, look for the Easy Ups with our BAS Banner. Bring with you:  Swimsuits, towels, sunscreen, breakfast, lunch, drinks, beach chair, hiking clothes if you want to hike the Rubicon Trail, etc.  If we have cool weather, bring appropriate clothing.
8am-3pm  Enjoy the beach and Lake Tahoe!  Stand Up Paddleboards, Kayaks, and the Water Mat will be available all day.
11am-about 3:30pm  Optional Hike on the Rubicon Trail.  This is a 5-mile hike one way from Emerald Bay back to DL Bliss State Beach.  It is a beautiful hike!  Those wishing to do the hike should bring their lunches and carpool to the Emerald Bay parking area, leave their cars, and hike back to DL Bliss.  This hike takes about 4-4.5 hours to do from the time you leave the beach to parking and hiking back.  We will then help take the drivers back to get their cars about 4pm.
A shorter optional hike is to the Historical Rubicon Point Lighthouse along the Rubicon Trail.  This is a 2.4 mile round-trip hike from the beach that will take 75-90 minutes, depending on how many photos you take.

3-4:30pm - Whenever you are ready, drive back to the Campground
5:30-7pm - Preparing and eating dinner (or go out for dinner)
7-9pm - Campfire Time, Meet everyone else, Devotional from Pastor Greg Weisman, and special Dough Boys for dessert!
10pm - Quiet time at the campground.

MONDAY – DEPARTURE DAY
6-9am - Waking up, coffee available, make some breakfast!
8am-noon – Pack up for being out of the campsite by noon.
Note:  Traffic going home from Tahoe can be extremely congested starting after lunch.  If you want to avoid it, either leave earlier or wait until evening when most have already left.  Your Parking Pass is good for all State Parks for the whole day, so why not enjoy the Lake Tahoe area!
